Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas HS) and freshman
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School #368) combined to score eight of Hartwick's nine goals in a 9-7 victory for the nationally sixteenth-ranked Hartwick water polo team over #21 Wagner Friday at Brown's Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
The Hawks, who had won just once in the last five games against the Seahawks, improve to 14-4 in 18 meetings.
Hartwick took the lead with 5:31 left in the opening quarter on a Polak goal and never relinquished it. The Hawks would lead by as many as four, 9-5, following a Kotanchyan tally with under three minutes left in the third quarter.
Polak and Kotanchyan each scored a pair of 5-meter goals as the Hawks went 4-for-4 on the night. Kotanchyan also registered an assist in her first collegiate game.
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ONT / Grand River Collegiate Institute) also recorded a goal in her first contest with 'Wick.
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia / St. Clares College) paced Hartwick with two assists.
Charlotte Cottle (Blakehurst, Australia / Presbyterian Ladies College) added one helper.
Junior
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) had a big game in goal. She stopped sixteen Seahawk shots to aid in the victory. She would also record an assist and a steal.
Hartwick continues play tomorrow at Brown as it plays against McKendree tomorrow at 12:40 p.m. and #23 Marist at 5:20 p.m.
