PROVIDENCE, RI – Hartwick water polo improved to 3-0 on the season with victories over McKendree Umiversity and #23 Marist on Saturday at the Brown University Bruno Invitational at Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Hawks defeated McKendree 15-9 and Marist 13-11.
In the opener, Hartwick grabbed a 5-0 lead in the opening quarter. The Bearcats trimmed the margin to 8-6 in the second but 'Wick scored the opening three goals of the third quarter and never led by less than four the rest of the way.
Madison Germuska (Encinitas, CA / La Costa Canyon HS), and
Gina Grauer (West Lawn, PA / Wilson HS) paced the Hawks with three goals apiece. Germuska would add a pair of assists.
Sarah Lewis (La Jolla, CA / Cathedral Catholic HS),
Maria Moya (Madrid, Spain / Ortega Y Gasset),
Maryanna Antoniou (Glyfada, Greece / Second General HS of Glyfada), each registered two goals. Moya also handed out two assists.
Natalie May (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) contributed a goal and two assists.
Becca Lelles (Boulder City, NV / Boulder City HS) and
Hayley Hill (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Fort Lauderdale HS) also tallied.
Sabrina Hartwell (Ann Arbor, MI / Skyline HS) and
Emma Aleksandrovic (Belgrade, Serbia / Medicine School Zvezdara) combined for eight saves in goal. Hartwell made four stops with two assists. Aleksandrovic also stopped four Bearcat shots.
Against the Red Foxes,
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School #368) accounted for six goals and one assist in the victory.
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas HS) added three scores and four helpers for the Hawks.
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia / St. Clares College) contributed a pair of goals and an assist.
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ONT / Grand River Collegiate Institute) scored twice and
Charlotte Cottle (Blakehurst, Australia / Presbyterian Ladies College) chipped in with two assists.
Goalkeeper
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) made seven stops in the 'Wick cage. She also had an assist.
The Hawks conclude play at Brown tomorrow against Iona at 9:10 a.m. and Azusa Pacific at 1:50 p.m.
