PROVIDENCE, RI – Hartwick registered a sweep for the second consecutive day to move to 5-0 after play at the Brown University Bruno Invitational on Sunday. The Hawks defeated Iona 14-7 in their opening game and wrapped play with a 9-6 victory against Azusa Pacific. The 5-0 mark is the best start to a season in program history.
Against the Gaels, freshman
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School #368) scored four times and dished out three assists for the Hawks.
L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic HS) contributed two tallies.
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ONT / Grand River Collegiate Institute),
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia / St. Clares College),
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT / Silverthorn Collegiate Inst.),
Charlotte Cottle (Blakehurst, Australia / Presbyterian Ladies College),
Maria Moya Madrid, Spain / Ortega Y Gasset),
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas HS),
Becca Lelles (Boulder City, NV / Boulder City HS), and
Gina Grauer (West Lawn, PA / Wilson HS) each scored once. Wilson and
Madison Germuska (Encinitas, CA / La Costa Canyon HS) had two assists apiece.
In goal,
Emma Aleksandrovic (Belgrade, Serbia / Medicine School Zvezdara) made six saves. She also had a steal and an assist.
Polak had six goals in the Hawks' second game against the Cougars. Kotanchyan had two goals, two assists, and six steals. Mihajlovic had the remaining goal.
Natalie May (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) picked up a pair of assists. Cottle and Edwards had one each.
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) made nine saves in the Hartwick cage to go along with two assists and a steal.
Hartwick next plays on Saturday, February 11 at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational. The Hawks open tournament play against San Diego State at 9:50 a.m.
