ANN ARBOR, MI – Hartwick split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Michigan Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, MI. The Hawks dropped an 11-7 decision to #7 UC Irvine and defeated Santa Clara 12-10. The win over the Broncos marked head coach
Alan Huckins' 350
th at Hartwick.
In the Hawks' opener, 'Wick led by a count of 4-2 in the opening quarter. The Anteaters, however, would end the game on a 9-3 run for the win. The two teams were tied at 6-6 deep in the second before Irvine pulled away.
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas HS) scored three times to lead the Hawks.
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School #368),
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ONT / Grand River Collegiate Institute),
Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand / Takapuna Grammar School), and
Natalie May (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) also tallied for the Hawks.
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) made 10 saves and had two steals.
Against the Broncos, the Hawks never trailed. They led by a goal after one quarter and extended their advantage to three at halftime. 'Wick led by five after three quarters before Santa Clara got it closer in the fourth.
Kotanchyan registered four goals in the game with Polak contributing three tallies. Wilson, McKenty,
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT / Silverthorn Collegiate Inst.),
Charlotte Cottle (Blakehurst, Australia / Presbyterian Ladies College), and
L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic HS) also scored for Hartwick.
The Hawks, who are now 8-3 on the season, play #9 Pacific and #13 UC Davis tomorrow to conclude play at the tournament.
