ANN ARBOR, MI – Eighteenth-ranked Hartwick (8-5) dropped a pair of matches on Sunday on the final day of the Michigan Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, MI. The Hawks were on the wrong side of a 12-8 final score to #9 University of the Pacific and dropped a heartbreaker to #13 University of California Davis in sudden-death overtime, 16-15.
In the first meeting of the day versus Pacific,
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas HS) and
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT / Silverthorn Collegiate Inst.) combined for six goals.
The Hawks trailed by a goal after the first quarter and by two at the half, but the Tigers used a 5-1 third quarter to aid in the victory.
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School #368) added a goal and two assists.
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia / St. Clares College) also scored.
Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand / Takapuna Grammar School) dished out three assists.
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS) stopped 11 shots.
Later in the day against UC Davis, both squads traded runs in the first three quarters before playing to a deadlocked score of 10-10 to end the third. UC Davis put up three straight points but Kotanchyan, Polak and Brennan each recorded a goal to force overtime.
Mihajlovic and Polak, as well as the Aggies' Paige Virgil each put up a goal in the first extra period. Virgil scored again in the second overtime. In the sudden death period, Greta Kohlmoos settled the final score with a goal with 1:08 remaining.
Up next, the Hawks host St. Francis Brooklyn and Siena College on March 11 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, at Moyer Pool.
