ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Hartwick men's tennis fell 8-1 on the road to Nazareth on Friday afternoon. The loss puts the Hawks at 1-4 on the year and 0-3 in the Empire. The Golden Flyers move to 5-6 and 4-1 in conference.
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) was the lone Hawk to pick up a win and would do so at the top flight in the singles component. Talbot just got by Lamar Hurt 6-4 in the first set and would edge him again 7-5 to avoid the match sweep.
Nazareth took each doubles point by 8-4 scores and would earn the first points through the first half of singles play.
After dropping the first set 6-0,
Nick Adamou (New Milford, CT/New Milford) played a competitive second set at the third flight. Adamou would play Dan Freilicher closely but would end up falling 7-5 score allowing Nazareth the 7-0 lead.
Krishna Patel (Brunswick, ME/Pine Tree Academy) took Louis Rogers to a tiebreaker at the second flight. Patel took the first set, 6-4, but would end up on the wrong side of that same mark in the second set. Rogers mounted a lead in the deciding set before earning Nazareth's final point of the afternoon, 10-6.
Hartwick continues its road swing tomorrow with a match at St. John Fisher. The Hawks and Cardinals prepare for a 1 p.m. serve.
