ONEONTA, NY – Junior Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas HS) and freshman Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School #368) combined for 10 of the Hawks' goals as Hartwick water polo defeated George Washington 23-12 at Moyer Pool Friday night. With the victory, 'Wick improves to 18-7 overall and 2-0 in the CWPA. The Hawks also stay perfect all-time against the Colonials with their 11th win in 11 tries.
           
The 17th ranked Hawks took the lead 34 seconds into the contest on a Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ONT / Grand River Collegiate Institute) goal. Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand / Takapuna Grammar School) and Polak added tallies to increase the margin to three before the Colonials got on the scoreboard at 5:03.
           
Polak added her second goal of the quarter to make it a 4-1 game, but GW answered with three straight goals to tie the score 4-all. Natalie May (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS), Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT / Silverthorn Collegiate Inst.), and Kotanchyan recorded goals in the final 2:21 of the first and the Hawks were ahead for good, 7-4.
             
Five unanswered tallies for 'Wick upped its total to 12. Kotanchyan and Polak each netted two and Mihajlovik added the other in the run. The Colonials scored the next three before Charlotte Cottle (Blakehurst, Australia / Presbyterian Ladies College) and Polak finished off the half for Hartwick with a 14-7 advantage.
           
Hartwick out-scored the Colonials 6-1 in the third quarter. Becca Lelles (Boulder City, NV / Boulder City HS) and Madison Germuska (Encinitas, CA / La Costa Canyon HS) each scored twice. Kotanchyan added her fourth and Polak tallied her sixth as the Hawks led 20-8 heading into the fourth.
           
With the game in hand, 'Wick was out-scored 4-3 in the final quarter. L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic HS) found the net twice and Hannah Erbe Smith (San Diego, CA / Scripps Ranch HS) closed out the night's scoring.
           
Freshman Emma Aleksandrovic (Belgrade, Serbia / Medicine School Zvezdara), junior Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison HS), and sophomore Sabrina Hartwell (Ann Arbor, MI / Skyline HS) all played in goal for the Hawks.
           
'Wick hosts #7 Michigan tomorrow at 6 p.m. The Hawks wrap up the weekend against #10 Princeton on Sunday at 3 p.m.
