ONEONTA, NY – Despite two doubles victories, the Hartwick women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, 6-3, to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday evening at Hartwick Courts. The Hawks stumble to 4-1 on the season while the Red Dragons are 3-1 on the year.
The doubles victories came at the top two spots to the credit of
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic) at no. 1 and
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and
Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) at no. 2. The duos earned the respective scores of 8-5 and 8-2.
The lone Hartwick singles win was collected at the third flight by Ryan. The senior picked up the point after garnering a 6-3, 6-2 clip.
The Hawks stay at home when they welcome Nazareth to Hartwick Courts, Saturday, September 16 a 1 p.m. This match comes as the first of a five-game league stretch.
