ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick women's tennis team snapped a four-match skid and
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) stays perfect in league action as the Hawks got past Elmira, 6-3, Friday afternoon at Hartwick Courts on Senior Day. The win becomes the Hawks' third victory in conference, 5-4, 3-3 Empire 8 while the Soaring Eagles drop to 2-7, 1-4 E8.
In the doubles portion to start the afternoon,
Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic) and
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) registered an 8-3 victory at no. 1 while Napolitano and
Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) put their opponents away 8-2, at the second showing.
With a 2-1 advantage heading into independent action, no. 1 flight representative Rice, exhibited near perfect play only sacrificing a point in the 6-1, 6-0 win that awarded her team the two-point advantage.
Napolitano's straight set victories, 6-2, 6-0, at the second flight, not only put the home team up by a triple but the senior remains unbeaten on the year improving her league clip to 6-0.
Ryan's third flight performance rewarded HC the insurmountable lead as she captured a two-point edge in the first set, 6-4, before her second set intensity disallowed scoring from her opponent, 6-0.
At no. 4 LaSita endured a more competitive matchup as she eked out a pair of back-to-back two-point victories, 6-4, 7-5.
Elmira would go on to record fifth and sixth singles' victories.
The Hawks remain at home and host Stevens tomorrow, September 30 in a 1 p.m. as just the second to final Empire 8 contest of their regular season.
