DELHI, NY – After having to relocate due to inclement weather and being forced to move their game inside, the Hartwick women's tennis swept host Delhi, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon at SUNY Delhi Tennis Courts. The Hawks go up 2-0 on the season while the Broncos remain winless on the season, 0-2.
Hartwick opened the match claiming each doubles point for the early 3-0 lead. The Hawks earned the insurmountable fifth win at the sixth singles slot.
Sofie Brennan (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) won her first match of the season at no. 4. Finding her rhythm early, Brennan was able to limit her opponent to just three points through straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Zoe Rockwell (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) also battled in her match at fifth singles. After quickly dropping the first set, Delhi's Mackenzie Landmen upped her level of play. Landmen took the lead in the second going up 5-4 forcing Rockwell to hold her serve if she were to stay in the set. Rockwell did just that and won three consecutive games to capture the flight victory, 6-3, 7-5.
Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) went up early in the first set, 4-1, at no. 3. However, her opponent, Antonia Delavera, started to find her range on her backhand and jumped ahead to take the set 6-4. LaSita found rhythm into the second set and began to charge the net with sudden aggression. LaSita ended up winning, 6-4, to force a deciding set. LaSita did not let up and would secure the flight win with a 10-5 third-set victory.
Women's tennis continues a three-match stretch with its second in a row tomorrow at Bard College. The Raptors will host the Hawks at 4 p.m.
