                     ANN ARBOR, MI – Nationally thirteenth ranked Hartwick lost its season opener but rebounded for a victory in its second game at the Michigan Invite at Donald B. Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, MI Saturday. 'Wick dropped a 15-11 decision to No. 9 University of the Pacific in its opener. The Hawks then defeated No. 24 Marist College, 12-9, in its second game, to improve to 1-1 overall.
          
The Tigers would out-score the Hawks in each of the first three quarters. Despite outscoring the Pacific 4-2 in the fourth quarter, Hartwick was unable to come away with the win.
 
L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, CA/Cathedral Catholic) scored five goals in the loss. 
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ONT/Grand River Collegiate Institute) scored a goal in each of the first three quarters for a total of three in the match.
 
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia/Elk Island School), 
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary/Rudas), and 
Charlotte Cottle (Sydney, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies College) each scored a goal to round out the Hawks' scoring.
          
Against Marist, the Hawks pulled away in the second half, out-scoring the Red Foxes by a count of 8-4 to pull out the victory.  
 
Polak led the Hawks with four goals. 
Katie McKenty (Aukland, New Zealand/Takapuna Grammar School), 
Nikolina Mihajlovik (Mississauga, ONT/Silverthorn Collegiate Institute), and Edwards all scored a pair of goals against the Red Foxes.
 
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia/St. Clares College) and Wilson each recorded goals in the match.          
       
Hartwick plays tomorrow in an exhibition against the Chinese National Team at 7:45 a.m. The Hawks will then wrap up the invitational with a fourth game against No. 20 Wagner College at 2 p m.
