LOS ANGELES / IRVINE, CA - Nationally twelfth ranked Hartwick was in action today for a pair of games in southern California. The Hawks were defeated by No. 3 University of Southern California 21-9 in their first match. In their second match, 'Wick fell to No. 7 University of California at Irvine 12-8.
In the first game, the Trojans outscored the Hawks 10-2 in the first period. The Trojans would lead 14-5 at the half. In the second half the Trojans would outscore 'Wick 6-2 and go on to win the match by twelve goals.
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas H.S.) led the Hawks in scoring with four goals.
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School),
Charlotte Cottle (Sydney, Australia / Presbyterian Ladies College),
L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic H.S.),
Becca Lelles (Boulder City, NV / Boulder City H.S.), and
Natalie May (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison H.S.) each scored a lone goal to round out scoring for the Hawks.
Hannah Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic H.S.) had four saves in goal and
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison H.S.) had two against the Trojans.
In the second game, 'Wick took the lead over the Anteaters at half 4-3. In the third period, the Anteaters outscored the Hawks 6-1 taking a four-goal lead. The third period would prove to be decisive as the Hawks' three goals in the fourth period were matched by the Anteaters. UC Irvine would win by four goals.
Kotanchyan led the Hawks in scoring in the second game with three goals and two assists.
L.J. Edwards would score twice against the Anteaters.
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia / St. Clares College),
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ON / Grand River Collegiate Institute), and Polak would also score goals. Santos had nine saves in goal against the Anteaters.
The Hawks will be in action on April 7
th for a pair CWPA league matches against Bucknell University at 10:15 a.m. and George Washington University at 3:15 p.m. in Cambridge, MA.
