ANN ARBOR, MI – Nationally sixteenth ranked Hartwick played a pair of CWPA games at the University of Michigan. The Hawks won their first game against St. Francis University (PA), 18-7. 'Wick then dropped their second match of the day after being edged out by No. 10 Michigan University, 10-9.
In the first game, the Red Flash jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the Hawks in the first period. 'Wick then shut out SFU 4-0 in the second and led 5-4 at halftime. Hartwick continued to outscore St. Francis 8-3 in the third period and then shut them out in the fourth 5-0 to cruise to an 18-7 victory.
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ON / Grand River Collegiate Institute) led the Hawks in scoring with five goals.
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas H.S.) scored four goals to become the all-time leading goal scorer for the Hawks with 368 goals. Polak passed Kirsten Hudson's previous record of 367 with her fourth tally.
Becca Lelles (Boulder City, NV / Boulder City H.S.) scored two goals.
Maryanna Antoniou (Glyfada, Greece / Second General H.S. of Glyfada),
Sarah Lewis (La Jolla, CA / Cathedral Catholic H.S.),
Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand / Takapuna Grammar School), and
Gina Grauer (West Lawn, PA / Wilson H.S.) each had one goal.
Sabrina Hartwell (Ann Arbor, MI / Skyline H.S.) had seven saves in net.
In the second game, the Hawks and Wolverines fought a close game right up to the end. Michigan led 2-1 after the first period and the second period replicated the first with Michigan scoring two goals to the Hawks' one. The Wolverines led 4-2 at the halfway mark. In the third period. the pace of goals picked up with Michigan out-scoring Hartwick 5-4. 'Wick made a charge in the fourth, out-scoring the Wolverines 3-1 but came out one goal short of forcing overtime.
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia / St. Clares College),
L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic H.S.), and Wilson each scored two goals apiece to lead the Hawks' scoring.
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School), Lelles, and Polak each had one tally.
Hannah Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic H.S.) and
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison H.S.) combined for seven saves in goal.
The Hawks will next be in action on Friday, April 27
th for the CWPA Championships in Lewisburg, PA. The Hawks will open play in the quarterfinal round. Seeding will be announced this week.
