Cambridge, MA - Nationally twelfth ranked Hartwick was in action today for a pair of CWPA games at Harvard University. The Hawks dropped their first game to No. 15 Princeton University 14-12. 'Wick also dropped their second match to No. 22 Harvard University 12-10
In the first game, the Hawks and Tigers were closely matched through the first period with the score tied at four goals apiece. The Tigers would outscore 'Wick 5-3 in the second period and would hold a two goal lead going into the half. Princeton would again outscore Hartwick 4-3 in the third period increasing their lead to three. In the fourth period, the Hawks would outscore Princeton 2-1 but were unable to cut any further into the Tigers lead as Princeton would go on to win by two goals.
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School) led the Hawks in scoring with four goals.
Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas H.S.) scored three goals.
Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia / St. Clares College) and
Tori Wilson (Kitchener, ON / Grand River Collegiate Institute) scored two goals apiece.
L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic H.S.) had a lone goal to round out scoring against the Tigers.
Hannah Edwards (Encinitas, CA / Cathedral Catholic H.S.) and
Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, CA / Edison H.S.) each had two saves in goal.
In the second game, the Hawks jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first period. The Crimson outscored the Hawks 5-1 in the second period to take a two goal lead at the half. Harvard would continue to outscore 'Wick in the third period 5-2. The Hawks would make a cut into the Crimson lead in the fourth but came up two goals short in the end.
Wilson, Kotanchyan, and Polak each scored two goals. Brennan,
Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand / Takapuna Grammar School),
Becca Lelles (Boulder City, NV / Boulder City H.S.), and
Gina Grauer (West Lawn, PA / Wilson H.S.) each scored a lone goal.
The Hawks will close out regular season play on April 14
th with a pair CWPA league matches against St. Francis University at 2:30 p.m. and No. 9 Michigan University at 7 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
