Box Score UTICA, NY – Host Utica College won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches to claim a 6-3 victory over Hartwick in Empire 8 women's tennis on Sunday afternoon.
The duo of
Victoria Wilson (Trenton, NY/Trenton Catholic) and
Skylar Watts (Rome, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) earned the Hawks' lone doubles win with an 8-6 triumph over the Pioneer tandem of Sara Gribanoff and Morgan Willis. In second doubles, and
Hannah Pettis (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) and
Jessica Best (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) nearly came away with a victory but they fell to Madeline McIlnay and Camryn Sullivan by a slim 8-6 count.
Wilson and Watts were both victorious in the top two flights. Wilson handled Gribanoff in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, for her third win of the season. Watts also won in straight sets over McIlnay, 6-3, 6-3, for her third victory of the campaign.
Hartwick hosts Houghton in another Empire 8 Conference match on Friday, October 11 at Wilber Courts beginning at 4 p.m. The match also marks the Hawks' Code Blue match for 2019.
