Hawks Wrap Up Regular Season with 8-1 Win over Utica

Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks wrapped up their regular Empire 8 season on Sunday afternoon by a score of 8-1 to finish the fall 11-0 and 7-0 in conference play.

  • Records:  Hartwick (11-0 Overall, 7-0 E8), Utica (1-9 Overall, 1-6 E8)
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • Hartwick received two points from the start as Utica was forced to forfeit both 3rd doubles and 6th singles.
  • The Hawks took the other two doubles matches easily.  Maggie Van Valkenburg (Highland, N.Y.) and Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) did not drop a game in their 8-0 win at 2nd doubles.
  • The combo of Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N. Dak.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) took down their 1st doubles opponent 8-2.
  • Due to the forfeits and the two doubles wins, the Hawks only needed to win one match in the singles round to claim the overall victory.
  • Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) secured the win at 3rd singles in straight sets by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
  • Vanuga was a double winner on the day, winning her 5th singles match also in straight sets 6-0 and 6-0.
  • Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) picked up the other two singles round wins.
  • With the victory over Utica, the Hawks claim their first ever Empire 8 Regular Season Championship.
  • Their 11-0 overall mark and 7-0 conference record are both program firsts.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks will now turn their attention to the Empire 8 Championship on Friday and Saturday.  Details regarding the championship will be released as they become available.
