Men's Lacrosse Cruises to Victory at Keuka

Box Score Keuka Park, NY –The Men's Lacrosse team headed to Keuka Lake this afternoon to take on the Wolves of  Keuka College and continue their winning ways over Empire 8 opponents. The Hawks advanced to 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference play after the 17-7 victory. The Wolves fell to 2-4 on the year and dropped to 0-1 in their first Empire 8 game of the year.

It took the Hawks less than a minute to show their opponent that they came to play.  Dylan Ferguson opened up the scoring for the Hawks when teammate Shayne Kerrigan found him wide open on the crease. Pete Conley and Kainen Francis Thompson joined Ferguson and Kerrigan on the stat sheet when Thompson found Conley to make the game 2-0. Two minutes later, the Hawks took advantage of a Keuka penalty when Ferguson found Thompson who buried his first goal of the day on the man-up. Zack Orth found the twine when he beat his defender and moved the game to 4-0 forcing Keuka to take a timeout and talk it over. The duo of Thompson and Ferguson once again struck on a man-up opportunity, but this time it was Ferguson from Thompson to make the Hawks lead 5. Garrett Frost got the game to 6-0 with 4:30 left in the first when he beat his defender and snuck his shot past the Keuka keeper. Kerrigan found the goal sheet with 30 seconds left to play in the first quarter, and teammate Matthew Locasto scored 8 seconds later from a Conley pass that gave the Hawks an 8-0 advantage after just 1 quarter of play.

James Schneider opened the second quarter scoring at the 12:11 mark when he shook his defender almost out of his shoes and whipped a bounce shot right past the Keuka tender. After a quick restart from the end line, it was Conley who found a wide-open Tyler Nocito sitting on the crease who stung one past the Keuka Keeper. Conley got his third assist of the day when he hit Thompson behind the cage who stung his shot top right leaving no chance for the goalie to get it. Thompson netted his third goal of the day one minute later when he went behind the back off a forced failed Keuka clear caused by Aidan Clark. Thompson stayed hot and once again connected from Ferguson on a man-up opportunity to move the lead to 13. Kyle McKee ended the half with a shutout saving a perfect 5 for 5 shots on goal from the Wolves.

Kerrigan started the scoring in the second half when Conley found him sneaking behind the defense for a quick stick goal. Keuka tallied their first goal of the day with 11:43 left in the third quarter which made the game 14-1. Frost got his second goal of the day when he beat his defender down the alley and snuck his shot five hole. Thompson once again struck on the man-up when he found the mesh of Kerrigan's stick who put it behind the Keuka's goalies back and made the game 16-1 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Keuka was able to get the game to 16-3 to open up the fourth quarter, but it was Jacob Morenus who ended the run with 10:58 left in the game. Keuka showed they wouldn't go away and got the game to 17-7, but the Hawks early domination was too much for the Wolves.

Hartwick was led by Kainen Francis-Thompson who recorded 4 goals and 3 assists and Shayne Kerrigan who had 3 and 1. Dylan Ferguson had 2 goals and 2 assists, and Garrett Frost tallied 2 goals of his own. Pete Conley scored a goal of his own but was finding his teammates all day recording 4 assists.  Kyle McKee got the win, after saving 5 in the first half.  Jared Tiong-Smith played the second half of the game, saving 5 of his own.

The Hawks return to action Friday at 4 pm when they take Nazareth College in Wright Stadium.
