Cross Country NCAA Niagara Regional Championship Preview

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick Men's and Women's Cross Country program prepare to hit the road to compete in the 2024 NCAA Niagara Regional Championships, hosted by SUNY Fredonia.

A total of 27 colleges and universities will compete for the top spot, with aspiring hopes of reaching the NCAA Championships. The women's 6k race is set for 11AM, the men's 8k race is set to begin at 12PM.

The Women are led by Junior standout Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.), the top finisher for the Hawks at the Empire 8 Championships. Seniors Maddy Smith (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Giovanna Wall (West Hurley, N.Y.) provide a wealth of experience, and look to make an impact. Julia Weinschreider (Williamson, N.Y.) and Addison Shank (Emmaus, Pa.) will be competing in their first NCAA Regional appearance after solid debut seasons.

The Men will look to rely on Sophomore Erik Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y.) who continues to find his stride as we move into the tail end of the season, Higgins also was the top finisher for the Hartwick Men at the Empire 8 Championships. Higgins will look to get plenty of assistance from his brother Calvin Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y.) and a strong band of first years led by Devon Spalding (Mineola, N.Y.). Joining Spalding are Kevin Cando (Liberty, N.Y.), Larry McCumiskey (Delhi, N.Y.) and Jayden Perera (Middle Village, N.Y.), all who made big strides at the Empire 8 Championships.

There will be live results and video for the 2024 NCAA Niagara Regional Championship Meet. For more info, visit the SUNY Fredonia website here.
