Women's Cross Country Places 7th at Empire 8 Championships


HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Hartwick Women's Cross Country competed in the 2024 Empire 8 Cross Country Championships, hosted by Houghton University.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Women looked to begin their championship quest in the 6k race at the same course from last year's Empire 8 Championship, as the returners looked to lead the way.

  • Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.) has been strong all year and today was no different, being the first Hawk to cross the finish line with a finishing mark of 24 minutes and 37 seconds. Haas' best mile pace was 6 minutes and 37 seconds throughout the championship course.

  • First year standout Julia Weinschreider (Williamson, N.Y.) capped off her stellar year with a 25 minute and 26 second performance, earning points for the Hawks.

  • Maddy Smith (Oneonta, N.Y.) kept the Hawks rolling, finishing within the same minute as Weinschreider. Smith completed her race with a finishing time of 25 minutes and 50 seconds.

  • Addison Shank (Emmaus, Pa.) was solid in her first Empire 8 Championship, coming in with a time of 27 minutes and 7 seconds.

  • Giovanna Wall (West Hurley, N.Y.) wrapped up the day for the Hawks, finishing ten seconds behind Shank, clocking in at 27 minutes and seventeen seconds as the Hawks earned 7th place in this year's championships.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH NATE CREWS

"The women stepped it up today, we set our eyes on Alfred and they made it happen. Three women ran personal best and the other two ran seasons best, the ladies also averaged 33 seconds faster than the 2023 Empire 8 Championship performance."
