PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The Hawks began their season with a late race away at the Rodenbeck Invitational hosted by St. John Fisher University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks geared up for a short course race to begin their season on a chilly August evening.
Despite a tougher course, Senior and Empire 8 Player to Watch, Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.), was a standout for the Hawks, placing 41st out of over 150 runners with a time of 16 minutes and 24 seconds. In the final two kilometers alone, Haas would pass sixteen other runners to get the Hawks started.Â
Other Empire 8 Player to Watch, Julia Weinschreider (Williamson, N.Y.)– after coming off of a stellar rookie season last year– was the second Hawk to cross the finish line, posting a time of sixteen minutes and fifty-one seconds.
First year Emilia Murphy (Amsterdam, N.Y.) finished at seventeen minutes and twenty-six seconds, not too far behind Weinschreider.
With a 9th place team finish, the women's team would conclude the day by overtaking two conference foes: Alfred University and Keuka College.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH NATE CREWS
"The women performed spectacularly, already setting pace ahead of the previous years' best on short courses. While I was very happy to see the times on a more challenging course, how we raced head-to-head was our primary focus after crossing the halfway point. Bryn Haas overtook sixteen runners and Julia Weinschreider overtook thirteen runners in the final two kilometers of the race."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
