Men's Lacrosse Empire 8 Championship Preview

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick Hawks' Men's Lacrosse program has clinched a playoff berth in the Empire 8 Tournament for the sixth time in Head Coach Don LaSala's tenure at Hartwick.

The Hawks clinched the 4th seed in a must-win game against Russell Sage, defeating the Gators 16-7 on Wednesday night.

Hartwick will head to top-seeded St. John Fisher on Wednesday, May 1st with the game set to begin at 4 PM. The winner will advance to the championship, held at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 4th.

The Hawks hosted the Cardinals earlier this season, falling 18-13 in their lone regular season matchup.

Hartwick's attack is led by junior midfielder Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) coming in with a team-high 34 goals to go with 10 assists, third most on the squad. Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) and Shayne Kerrigan (Foxborough, Mass.) also have had success in finding the back of the net. August currently has 28 goals and seven assists, Kerrigan has proved to be a constant threat with the ball in his possession, picking up 20 goals and a team-high 17 assists.

The defense has played their part, causing 115 turnovers and picking up 468 ground balls, racking up 50 more ground balls than their opposition. The Hawks lead the Empire 8 conference with 12.92 saves per game, proving their versatility of being able to score goals at a high rate while also playing a high level of defense, making it hard on their opponents to put points on the scoreboard.

The winner of the Empire 8 Tournament will earn an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
