Women’s Tennis Defeats Geneseo Empire 8 Opener

Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks picked up a big win over SUNY Geneseo on Saturday morning, defeating the Knights 6-3 in their Empire 8 opener.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks were forced into time and location changes due to weather on Saturday, moving their match up to 9 AM and indoors at SUNY Delhi.
  • The changes did not matter for Hartwick, as the Hawks came out to take two of the three doubles matches to jump out to a 2-1 lead.
  • Picking up doubles wins were 2nd Doubles partners Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) and Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) and 3rd Doubles partners Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) and Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.).
  • Both teams defeated their Geneseo opponents 8-6.
  • Alexandra Krasinska (Pine Island, N.Y.) rebounded from a 1st Doubles loss, picking up a 1st Singles win 6-3, 6-0.
  • Lantzy was dominant in her 3rd Singles match also defeating her opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
  • Wrapping up the scoring for the Hawks was Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) at 5th Singles and Van Valkenburgh at 6th Singles.
  • "It was an awesome performance from all of our players today," commented head coach Samantha Butcher. "Geneseo is a tough team that really pushed us and we were able to stay focused and play aggressive on every court."
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks hit the road tomorrow for a non-conference dual match at SUNY Cortland beginning at 11 AM.
