Hawks Soar Over Oneonta and Potsdam at Home Tri-Meet

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The women's swimming and diving team posted a solid finish in their weekend tri-meet, triumphing over both the SUNY Potsdam Bears and rival SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The divers opened the day at the tri-meet, with Anabelle Lindsay (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) leading the way for the Hawks. She would take second in the 1-meter diving event before posting a major comeback to take first place in the 3-meter dive.

In the swimming events, 'Wick came out of the gate strong with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay, with their winning team made up of Cassidy Payrot (Cicero, NY), Min-Syun Chen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Anna Bischoff (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Hope Valent (Cary, NC). Parrot and Chen would both return to the pool later to snag victories in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard breaststroke, respectively.

Hartwick would also sweep the top finishes in both the 1,000 yard free and the 500 yard free, with Cate Russo (San Pedro, Cal.), Katie Vieira (South Windsor, Conn.) and Avery Sommo (Slingerlands, N.Y.) filling out the top three. Russo would also soon claim a victory in the 200 yard free as well.

Despite falling to Oneonta in the women's 100 yard free, the Hawks would answer right back with strong performances in the 50 yard free, as Bischoff took first place while being closely followed by teammates Payrot and Kate Gucciardi (Cicero, N.Y.). Gucciardi would later continue a great day with a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke event.

First-year Angie Testani (Endicott, NY) would also post several excellent finishes, including a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.56. Less than a second behind her would be Chen to claim second place for the Hawks.

The women's team would conclude the day with a victory in the 200 yard free relay, led by Bischoff, Testani, Gucciardi, and Russo.

Overall, the Hawks would defeat the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons 238-67 and the SUNY Potsdam Bears 254-42. This victory, combined with the men's win brings the Hawks to a 4-2-1 lead in the Battle of the Hills.
