ONEONTA, N.Y. – Three Hawks from the men's lacrosse team have just been named to the At-Large Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
The honorees from the men's lacrosse team this year include Liam Downey (Blue Point, N.Y.), Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.), and Joseph Pagano (Oceanside, N.Y.).
Senior defender Liam Downey would start in twelve games for the Hawks, proving to be a threat on both sides of the field. Downey would tally up several career-high statistics with 141 face offs won, 92 ground balls, and 26 caused turnovers. This season, he would also lead the Empire 8 with an average of 2.17 caused turnovers per game and earn both his first collegiate goal and first collegiate assist. Downey would also be recognized as the team's Most Valuable Player and was selected to the Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team. In addition to his achievements on the field, Downey would also receive Fall 2024 Empire 8 President's List honors.
Garrett Frost would play in all sixteen games for the Hawks this season as a senior midfielder, earning 30 goals and 11 assists, as well as 14 ground balls. Frost would rank within the top 15 in the Empire 8 in several offensive statistical categories, earning him a spot on the Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team. His achievements were also reflected in the classroom, with him earning Fall 2024 Empire 8 President's List honors. In addition to his conference academic recognition, this will be Frost's second consecutive year garnering CSC At-Large Academic All-District honors.
Joseph Pagano as a senior defender would also make an impact for the Hawks this season, starting in fifteen games. He would corral a career-high 32 ground balls and cause a career-high of 20 turnovers this year, ranking him 9th in the Empire 8 with an average of 1.33 caused turnovers per game. These impressive statistics on the field would earn him Empire 8 All-Conference Third Team honors. In the classroom, his academic merit would also land him on the Fall 2024 Empire 8 President's List.
To qualify for All-District consideration, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically, hold at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and participate in 90% of the team's games played.
