ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick put forth a valiant effort in its final dual match of the fall season on Sunday but Stevens came away with a 6-3 win. The Ducks end the conference season in second place with a record of 7-1. Hartwick ends the fall campaign 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the Empire 8 finishing sixth.
Stevens led 3-0 after sweeping the three doubles matches. The two teams then split the six singles matches with Jennifer Lin (Albany, NY/Albany), Kim Post (Nashua, NH/N. Middlesex Reg.), and Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) winning their matches for the Hawks.
Lin secured a three-set victory over Nicole Portner in second singles. The junior won set one 6-1, fell in a second-set tie-break, but won the third-set race to 10 points for her fourth straight victory. She caps the fall with a 6-6 mark in singles matches.
Post ends the fall 8-4 after coming back from a one-set deficit against Kendra Appleheimer. After losing the first set 7-5, Post took sets three and four by scores of 6-4. Lin and Post lost in doubles play but recorded nine victories in 12 matches in 2009.
Michels also won her fourth match in a row at sixth singles. She downed Natalie Schloeder 6-4, 6-2 to improve her record to 5-4.
Senior Betsy Breaznell (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) was playing in her final home match with the program today. The senior ended the fall with 31 career singles wins and 24 doubles victories in four seasons.
