ROCHESTER, NY - Hartwick College (2-6, 2-4 E8) split with St. John Fisher in singles play but could not overcome a 3-0 deficit after doubles play on Saturday in Rochester. The Hawks were playing in their first dual match competition in 10 days. All three Hartwick doubles teams fell by identical 8-3 scores.
Betsy Breaznell (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) outlasted Laura Hale in first singles 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 to improve to 3-3 in Empire 8 play this season. Carly Jesset (Shelburne, VT/CVU) won in fifth singles 6-4, 6-4, over Katelyn Smith to improve to 2-1 in the conference and Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) downed Marissa Rotondo 6-2, 6-1 in the sixth singles flight to even her E8 mark at 2-2. Hartwick plays Alfred tomorrow to wrap up the weekend at 1 p.m.
