OLEAN, NY - Hartwick's women's tennis team improved to 3-4 in the Empire 8 Conference on Saturday with a 7-2 win over Alfred in a dual match played at St. Bonaventure University.
Jennifer Lin (Albany, NY/Albany), Kim Post (Nashua, NH/N. Middlesex Reg.), Carly Jesset (Shelburne, VT/CVU), and Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) all won their singles matches for the Hawks and all three doubles teams were victorious over their Saxon counterparts.
Lin won in second singles 6-1, 6-0 to improve to 3-4 in the Empire 8 this season. Post won her sixth match of the season and fourth in conference play in a three-setter, 3-6, 6-3, 10-5. Jesset rolled 6-1, 6-1 over Alfred's Brittany Bowen. It was Jesset's third consecutive win and her third E8 victory in four tries. Michels won her second consecutive match and third in the league with a comeback 1-6, 6-2, 10-1 triumph in sixth singles.
Betsy Breaznell (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) and Christina Sorrentino (Sherrill, NY/VVS) were 8-6 winners in first doubles. Lin and Post won for the time 7th in 2009 in the second doubles flight and Scarano and Jesset earned their first victory together in third doubles.
The Hawks will look for their second straight team win on Wednesday as they host Wells College at 4 p.m. The team then wraps up the regular season on Sunday as it hosts Stevens.
