St. Lawrence Drops Field Hockey From the Unbeaten Ranks

ONEONTA, NY — St. Lawrence scored three times in the first half en route to a 4-1 victory over Hartwick at Wright Stadium on Saturday. Taylor Vogt netted two of the saints' three goals in the opening stanza with Jennifer Stetson adding a goal and an assist. The saints improve to 2-1 with the win. Hartwick, which entered the match unbeaten, slips to 3-1.
Stetson opened the scoring for St. Lawrence less than 10 minutes into the game as she beat 'Wick goalie Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) from five yards out after receiving a crossing pass from Joss-Elyse Smith.
The game stayed 1-0 until the 20:03 mark of the first half when Vogt deflected in a Stetson shot from the top of the circle to increase the Saints; advantage to two goals. Vogt tacked on St. Lawrence's third tally from Kelsey Berry 5:15 before halftime. The Saints would hold a 10-2 edge in shots in the first session.
Three minutes and 34 seconds into the second half, Hartwick scored to cut the 'Wick deficit to two goals as freshman Cassie Jonaitis (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) netted her first career goal as she knocked in a shot from the top of the circle from junior Amanda Barton (Endwell, NY/Greene).
Hartwick would press for their second goal, but a deflection by Saint Michelle Laframboise with 7:23 to play in the contest would seal the victory for the visitors.
St. Lawrence ended the match with an 11-5 edge in shots. The Hawks were awarded nine penalty corners to the Saints' seven. Chapman made four saves in the Hawks' cage. Emilie Lannaman made two for St. Lawrence.
Hartwick stays at home for its next contest. The Hawks host Rochester on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. at Wright Stadium.
