ITHACA, NY - Ithaca College, the four-time defending Empire 8 champions, defeated Hartwick 9-0 on Thursday in Ithaca, NY. The Bombers stay perfect on the season with a 3-0 mark and 2-0 conference record. The Hawks are still in search of their first win in 2009 after three straight setbacks.

IC took a 3-0 lead after doubles play, dropping just four games in total. Melanie Cohen (3rd singles), Cristina Nunez (1st singles), and Sarah Hollis (4th singles) then earned straight sets wins in their respective flights to secure the team victory.

Hartwick's Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) took a one set to none lead in her match with Ithaca's Melissa Nunez winning six games to four in fifth singles play. Nunez came back to take set number two 6-3 and won the tie-breaker third set 10 points to four to deny Michels her first Hartwick dual match win.

The Hawks next play Nazareth at home on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. in another Empire 8 match. The team closes out the week with a road match at Elmira the following day also at 1 p.m.
