Hawks Pull Away in Second Half in 28-7 Win Over Norwich

ONEONTA, NY — Hartwick erased a 7-6 halftime deficit with 22 unanswered points in the second half for a 28-7 win over visiting Norwich on Saturday at Wright Stadium. 'Wick quarterback Brian Radley (Herkimer, NY/Dolgeville) and wide receiver Noah Koreman (Albany, NY/Albany) connected on the Hawks' first two scores and running back Tosh DeMulder (Unadilla, NY/Unatego) put the game on ice with two rushing touchdowns with under six minutes to play.
The Hawks, who have not been involved in a lower scoring game since downing the Cadets 19-13 in 2007 (13 games), stay perfect with a 3-0 record. 'Wick would gain 417 yards of offense on the day with 333 coming through the air. Norwich, which did much of its damage on the ground racking up 204 yards rushing, is still searching for its first win with an 0-3 overall mark.
Trailing 7-6 and struggling to generate much offense in the opening half, Hartwick opened the third quarter with a bang as Radley hit Koreman over the middle and the senior took off for a 64-yard touchdown reception to give 'Wick the lead for good 3:06 into the half.
The Hawks' offense controlled the clock and had possession of the ball for over 10 minutes in the third quarter. When Norwich did have the ball, the 'Wick defense held the Cadets off without allowing them to cross into Hartwick territory until the last play of the period.  In the fourth, Norwich running back James McFadden drove the Cadets to the Hartwick 12 yard-line looking for the go-ahead touchdown, but Hartwick would come up with a critical stop to keep the lead.
On 'Wick's next possession with under eight minutes left, Radley and DeMulder hooked up for a 46-yard passing play to get the ball into Cadet territory, and Radley hit Koreman for 30-yard reception bringing the ball inside the Norwich five yard-line. DeMulder would cap the drive off with a four-yard run with 5:21 left in the game to extend Hartwick's edge to 14 points, 21-7.
Norwich and Hartwick both punted following their next offensive series and the Cadets were set to get the ball back with just over three minutes to play needing two scores. On the punt return, however, the Cadets fumbled for one of their four turnovers on the day, and Hartwick recovered on the Norwich 12.
After three DeMulder rushes, he was in the end zone for the second time to put the game out of reach. He would finish the day with 55 yards rushing and 104 yards receiving on five catches. Koreman gained 116 yards on four receptions and Radley threw for 333 yards and two TDs completing 21 of 38 passes with one pick.
Sabourin went just 8-for28 on the day for 99 passing yards for the Cadets. He also was the team's top rusher with 73 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown.
For the third straight game, Hartwick's Jordan Spirou (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) led both teams in tackles. Today he made 15 hits, he recovered a fumble, and recorded 1.5 tackles for a loss of three yards. Ben Tomaino (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and Chad Rockefeller (Delhi, NY/Delaware Valley) each recorded nine tackles apiece and combined for 2.5 tackles for a loss for the Hawks, and Tony Volpicelli (Groton, NY/Groton) registered seven tackles, an interception and broke up two passes. Freshman R.J. Roth (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) also notched his first career interception in the final quarter returning the ball 18 yards.
Norwich's Reza Afsarmanesh led his team in tackles with nine. He also added 1.5 tackles for a loss. Rocco DiMeco added seven hits and Dan Reale contributed six.
The Hawks look to remain unbeaten next weekend on the road as they travel to Becker. Norwich hosts Mount Ida in its Eastern Collegiate Football Conference opener.
