Sixth-Ranked Cortland Downs ’Wick Field Hockey

ONEONTA, NY — Nationally sixth-ranked Cortland defeated Hartwick's field hockey team by a final score of 4-0 on Tuesday at Wright Stadium. The Red Dragons improve to 8-0 on the year while Hartwick slips to 3-3. Lauren Eichenberger, Brenda Semit, and Brianna Yetsko each recorded a goal and an assist on the day for Cortland.
Eichenberger opened the scoring for Cortland 1:45 into the match as she scored on a rebound from Sara Woodward from in close. The Red Dragons would hold a 12-2 edge in shots in the half but it appeared the Hawks would make it into halftime with just a one-goal deficit. A late penalty corner, however, was finished off by Groneman with no time on the clock as she finished off an Eichenberger cross to extend the Cortland lead to two goals after 35 minutes of play.
Yetsko made it 3-0 four minutes and nine seconds into the second half as she tipped in a shot from Semit right in front of goalie Mackenzie Chapnman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and the Hartwick cage.
The Hawks would trail the Red Dragons in shots in the second half by a slim 7-5 margin but had most of their efforts turned away by Cortland keeper Ashley Hughes. Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) put a pair of shots on target in the second half with Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) adding one.

Cortland finished off the scoring for the day with 8:16 left to go in the match. The play began with a penalty corner with Yetsko finding Semit for the goal.
The Red Dragons ended the match with a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 19-4 edge ion penalty corners. Chapman stopped a season-high 10 shots. Freshman Megan Campbell (Rutland, MA/Wachusett Regional) stopped one in the final six minutes of action. Hughes made three saves while Emily von Schondorf made one.
Hartwick (3-3) returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Ithaca in the conference opener for the Hawks.
