Allegheny Sinks Hartwick Women's Soccer 1-0

ONEONTA, NY - Allegheny College (5-0) defeated Hartwick (2-2-0), 1-0, today in the final game of the 2010 Mayor's Cup. The Gators picked up a 1-0 victory against the Hawks courtesy of a penalty kick. Molly Waggoner (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) cashed in on the spot kick in the 47th minute to supply the lone tally of the day. The Gators, with a 2-0 record in the tournament, captured the cup title. Hartwick finished second, its highest finish under head coach Matt Verni.

Allegheny outshot Hartwick 16-1 in the game and held an advantage 7-2 in corners in the match. Hartwick goalie, Alyssa Rondo (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) recorded a season-high nine saves. Emily Karr (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) earned the shutout for Allegheny.

In the day's first game, Oneonta State edged Carroll University 1-0. The Red Dragons' lone tally was netted by freshman Melissa Guglielmo (Somers, NY/Somers) in the 55th minute.

At the conclusion of the day's events, junior defender Julie Kessler (Canton, CT/Canton), junior midfielder Katie Schild (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), and sophomore defender Carly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) were selected to the all-tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.

Hartwick travels to Elmira College for their first conference game of the year Wednesday, September 15t.h. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
