Wilkins’ Three TDs Leads Hartwick Over Morrisville, 31-20

MORRSIVILLE, NY – Junior wide receiver Jordan Wilkins (Portsmouth, NH/Hyde School) had a career day with eight receptions for 144 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday as Hartwick pulled away in the second half in a 31-20 victory over Morrisville. Wilkins accounted for the first two touchdowns of the day, courtesy of quarterback Kyle Morenus (Sidney, NY/Sidney), and the duo hooked up again late in the third quarter to give Hartwick a 10-point cushion. The win for the Hawks is their second straight win over Morrisville after a 49-25 win last season.
The Hawks also had a big day from junior running back Anthony Casimano (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville), who rushed for a career-high 150 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. Morenus was 10-of-23 passing with career-bests of 156 yards, three touchdown passes, and 61 yards rushing.
The day started well for the Hawks as Casimano took the first play from scrimmage 29 yards and three plays later Morenus found Wilkins for a 29-yard touchdown. Neither team was able to put any more points on the board in the first quarter but another Morenus-Wilkins connection gave the Blue and White six more early in the second period. The 27-yard passing play capped a six-play, 64-yard drive and following another Heath Dunn (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) extra point, the Hawks led 14-0.
The Hawks held on to their 14-point lead until late in the half when Kyle Gordon made a 22-yard touchdown catch and the lead was cut in half. 'Wick, however, had plenty of time to get into scoring position as they drove 60 yards in 13 plays and Dunn knocked in a 19-yard field goal to put his squad up 17-7 at halftime.
The Mustangs made it interesting in the second half as Sean Barrett's 25-yard run capped a 79-yard drive and the hosts trailed by just three points, 17-14, midway through the third quarter. Neither team mustered anything in their next drives and were forced to punt. The Hawks got the ball back and Morenus found Wilkins for a 37-yard score to make it a 10-point game and Casimano put the finishing touches on the victory midway through the fourth quarter with a 7-yard run.
'Wick gained 442 yards of offense on the day and limited the Mustangs to just 240. Defensively for the Hawks, Jordan Spirou (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) led the way with 12 tackles. He also added an interception in the contest. Chad Rockefeller (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) contributed nine hits and Austin Smith (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) and R.J. Roth (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) each had seven.
The Hawks return to action next Saturday in their home opener against Salve Regina at 1 p.m.
