Sicari Leads Hawks to Victory over Alfred

ALFRED, NY- Christina Sicari (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) scored two goals and assisted on a third as the women's soccer team halted its four game winless streak with a 4-1 victory over Alfred on Sunday afternoon. Hartwick improves its record to 3-7 and picks up its first win in the Empire 8 while Alfred falls to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in the Empire 8.

Hartwick dominated from the start of the game and never trailed. Katie Schild (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) scored the first Hawk goal in the 10th minute to put Hartwick up 1-0.  

Sicari would score her two goals within four minutes of each other at the 56th and 60th minute of the game that gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Saxons would finally get on the board just 18 seconds after Sicari's second goal when Rachel Williams scored to make it 3-1.

Hartwick would complete the scoring when the sister-to-sister connection of Jayme Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) to Jessica Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) in the 71st minute gave the Hawks a 4-1 lead.

The Hawks outshot the Saxons by the margin of 26-6. Hartwick had 17 shots on goal compared to Alfred's four.

Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) started in goal for 'Wick and made three saves in 62:48 of playing time. Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans Selkirk) replaced her in the second half and played the final 27:12 and did not record a save. For Alfred, Ashley Frazell played the first half and had five saves. Alicia Hanes and Brianna Opperman split time in the second half with Hanes making five saves and Opperman making three saves.

Hartwick will play its home finale this Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host St. John Fisher.
