SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- Host Skidmore scored six times in the first half as it defeated Hartwick field hockey 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds, currently ranked #13 in the country, improve their record to 12-4. Hartwick, which is winless in its last five games, falls to 6-10.
 
Skidmore got on the scoreboard quickly in the first half as Kelly Blackhurst scored just 22 seconds into the game on a pass from the wing by Ceilidh MacNeill. Blackhurst would score her second of the game just over three minutes later when she beat a Hartwick defender and shot in front of the goal and past Hartwick goalkeeper Megan Campbell (Rutland, MA/Wachusett Regional) to give the Thoroughbreds a 2-0 lead.
 
After Skidmore scored a third time to go up 3-0, the Hawks would get on the board in the 12th minute. Kelsey Kimble (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) sent a pass to the far wing for Hiliary Carlson (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) who scored her fifth goal of the season to make it a 3-1 game.
 
The Thoroughbreds would score three more times in the first half and twice in the second to complete the scoring on the day. Blackhurst and Sam Skott both had two goals each. Dani Gregory scored once and assisted on three other goals.
 
Campbell started in the box for Hartwick and recorded three saves in 15:43 of game time. She was relieved by Kailee Granger (Afton, NY/Afton) who played 54:27 and stopped six shots. Holley Reynolds (Walton, NY/Walton) contributed three defensive saves.
 
Haley McDougall got the start for Skidmore in goal and had two saves in 50:43 of playing time. Allie Sosinsky and Amy Beck also saw time in goal and neither recorded a save.
 
Skidmore led in shots 29-5 and in penalty corners, 12-0.
 
Hartwick will conclude its regular season with a crucial Empire 8 game against Utica on Saturday. The winner will qualify for the Empire 8 Tournament while the loser will need help. Game time will be at 10:30 a.m.
