ONEONTA, NY- A total of nine goals were scored on the day as the Hartwick field hockey team kept pace with visiting Stevens but ultimately were denied victory in the end as the Ducks came out with a 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The Hawks are now 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the Empire 8 while Stevens is 4-2 and 2-0 in the E8.

The Ducks nearly took the lead less than five minutes into the contest when a shot ricocheted off the stick of Stevens' Erin Silvestri and off the crossbar. Stevens did go ahead in the 9th minute when Marguerite Chavez's shot was kicked back by Hartwick goaltender Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) and right to Dailyn Brook who put back the rebound to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of Stevens until just under the 22nd minute. Meghan Fay (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) passed to Alex Godina (San Diego, CA/Del Norte) who deposited the ball into the back of the cage to even the game at 1-1. Stevens would regain the lead on Grace Ridge's unassisted goal in the 34th minute and the Ducks led 2-1 at the half.

The second half saw six goals being scored between the two teams. Hartwick evened the game at 2-all just 31 seconds into the frame on a Kelly Kramer (Royersford, PA/Villa Maria Academy)-to-Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) connection. A little over five minutes later, 'Wick would take the lead when Jessica Ott's (Katonah, NY/John Jay) shot was redirected in by Fay.

The Ducks were granted a penalty stroke in the 50th minute but Chavez's attempt would be turned away by Carter. The Hawk lead lasted 11 minutes as Stevens tied the game at 51:42 and then went ahead 4-3 at 53:12. The Ducks added a fifth tally in the 68th minute. The Hawks would get to within to one score of trying the contest in the 69th minute on an Ott-to-Lauren Crimi (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) goal, but it was not enough as the Ducks pulled out the win in the end.

Carter played a tough game in the cage as she stopped 17 Duck shots. Stevens goaltender Emily Stukenberg had two saves for the Ducks.

The Ducks led in shots 27-6 and in penalty corners 24-6. Crimi and Ott both had two each for the Hawks.

Hartwick returns to Wright Stadium on Wednesday night when they host Manhattanville in a non-conference match. Game time will be at 7 p.m.
