TROY, NY- The Hartwick field hockey team traveled to Troy, NY for a non-conference match with RPI on Wednesday afternoon. Despite falling behind 2-0, the Hawks rallied to tie the game but ultimately fell to the Engineers 3-2.

The game was scoreless after the first half. The Engineers outshot the Hawks 10-2 in the period but tough defense and four key saves by 'Wick goalie Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) kept RPI off of the scoreboard.

In the second half, the Engineers scored just 3:18 in when Angela Cascio crossed in front of the goal and reversed her stick into the cage and past Carter to put RPI ahead 1-0. Six and a half minutes later, Catherine Mahoney hit a penalty corner that Brianna Kilberg redirected  into the goal to give RPI a 2-0 lead.

Following a timeout, the Hawks regrouped. Catie Santaniello (West Islip, NY/West Islip) had a penalty corner  that Kelly Kramer (Royersford, PA/Villa Maria Academy) passed off to Meghan Fay (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro), who redirected the shot into the box to get the Hawks on the board and reduce their deficit to 2-1.

Hartwick still trailed 2-1 late in the half when Santaniello was granted another penalty corner opportunity. After putting the ball in play, Megan Lefeber's (Riveton, CT/Northwestern) crossing shot was redirected by Jessica Ott (Katonah, NY/John Jay) and past Engineer goalie Hannah Clough to tie the game at 2-all with 4:45 left to play.

The score would stay tied for only 1:42 as RPI's Ashley Porter passed to teammate Kelsey Porter who shot into the left corner of the box past Carter and in to put the Engineers ahead 3-2 with 3:03 left on the clock. RPI controlled possession for the remainder of the contest to hold on for the victory.

Making her first collegiate start in goal, Carter stopped six shots in the Hartwick cage. Clough had four saves for RPI.

Hartwick had an 8-7 edge in shots in the second half. The Engineers led in penalty corners, 6-4.
