Hawks Performing at Their Best in Cortland

Cortland, NY – The Cortland Upstate Alternative Invitational occurred on Saturday and the Hawks made yet another strong impression. 13 teams across several divisions of collegiate athletics competed in this one day competition. Several Hawks came away with personal best performances throughout the day and a few even achieved new best marks in multiple events.  

On The Track

  • The Hawks quartet of Corey Quomony (Aberdeen, Md.), Quran Best (Bronx, N.Y.), C.J. Rogers (Delran, N.J.), and Kevin Mason (Galloway, N.J.) finished 4th in the 4x100m relay with a time of 48.29 seconds. 

  • Joe Catalano (Chester, N.Y.) and Mason both ran their best 400m times of the season placing them 10th and 13th respectively. Mason's performance time of 57.93 seconds was a personal best for him. 

  • After the 4x100m, Quomony and Best would return and join Josh Worrell (White Plains, N.Y.) in the 100m. Quomony led the group with a personal best of 11.58 seconds. He finished 11th overall, followed by Best finishing 25th, and Worrell who finished 31st. 

  • Rogers and Aidan Freda (Westtown, N.Y.) both ran significant personal bests in the 800m. Rogers lowered his personal best by about 3 seconds down to 2:06.37, while Freda ran  2:10.92, bettering his previous best performance by nearly 5 seconds. Their times placed them 14th and 22nd respectively out of 33 runners. 

  • Best, Catalano, Worrell, and Mason placed 27th, 31st, 33rd, and 35th respectively in the 200m. Best ran a new personal best of 24.46 seconds in the event. 

  • In addition to the 800m, Freda ran another personal best in the 1500m with a time of 4:39.13. He finished 3rd in his heat and 28th overall in the event. 

On The Field

  • Robert Burns (Copake, N.Y.) had himself an extremely busy day of throwing, but you wouldn't know it based on his high marks throughout. His best performance came in the Javelin where he finished 5th out of 18 throwers. He launched the 8 foot spear 145 ft 1 inch across the field which was a personal best. 

  • In addition, Burns finished 8th in the Shot Put, 13th in the Discus, and 15th in the Hammer. He threw a personal best mark in the Shot Put of 37 ft 8 ½ inches.

  • Quwayne Lawrence (New Britain, Conn.) competed in both the Shot Put and Discus with Burns. Lawrence came away with a personal best of his own in the Discus with a mark of 70 ft 2 inches. He finished 16th and 22nd in the two events respectively.

  • Quomony finished 21st in the Long Jump.    

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will return to SUNY Cortland for the Cortland Classic on Friday and Saturday April 21st and 22nd. The competition will be held at SUNY Cortland's Stadium Complex.
