Utica, NY – The Hartwick Men's Track and Field team traveled to Utica University's Pioneer Turf and Track and Field Complex to compete in the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite. 13 teams across several divisions of collegiate athletics competed in this two day competition. The Hartwick Men's Track and Field team would finish 10th totaling up 12 points. A majority of their points came from strong relay running in the 4x100m and 4x400m events.
On The Track
- C.J. Rogers (Delran, N.J.) led the way with several scoring performances throughout the day. Rogers ran one lap of the track in 53.70 seconds. He won his heat by nearly 5 seconds ahead of the next competitor. His performance placed him 7th out of 17 competitors in the 400m scoring two points for the Hawks.
- Earlier in the day, Rogers joined Corey Quomony (Aberdeen, Md.), Quran Best (Bronx, N.Y.), and Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.) in the 4x100m relay. The group got the baton around the track in 47.08 seconds which was good for 4th place and five points for the Hawks.
- Rogers would be called upon again to join Aidan Freda (Westtown, N.Y.), Kevin Mason (Galloway, N.J), and Joe Catalano (Chester, N.Y.) in the 4x400m relay to conclude the day. The quartet finished 5th in a time of 3:48.02 scoring four points in the team competition.
- Catalano and Mason also competed in the 400m finishing 10th and 14th respectively.
- Shortly after the 4x100m, Conteh and Best competed in the 100m where they finished 16th and 27th respectively.
- Quomony and Best would join Catalano and Mason in the 200m. The four men finished 22nd, 24th, 25th, and 29th respectively.
- Freda ran in the 1500m and the 800m where he finished 21st overall in both events.
On The Field
- Quomony achieved a personal best in the Long Jump 19 ft 4 ¼ inches on his first attempt. He would end up finishing 8th out of 19 jumpers scoring one point for the team.
- Robert Burns (Copake, N.Y.) threw a personal best performance in the Discus launching the metal plate 105 ft 2 inches across the field. His mark placed him 16th in the event.
- In addition, Burns finished 11th out of 25 competitors in the Javelin and 18th in the Shot Put.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will travel to SUNY Cortland for the Cortland Upstate Challenge on Saturday April 15th. The competition will be held at SUNY Cortland's Stadium Complex starting at 10am.
