Troy, NY – The Hartwick Men's Track and Field team competed in the Capital District Classic at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) a day earlier than expected yesterday afternoon. The Hawks at the conclusion of the meet finished 9th in the team competition against nine other teams which included a few NCAA Division I and II schools. The meet served as their last competition of the regular season and they showed outstanding promise ahead of Empire 8 Conference championships next week.
On The Track

Corey Quomony (Aberdeen, Md.), Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.), and Josh Worrell (White Plains, N.Y.) finished 9th, 10th, and 18th in the 100m.

Joe Catalano (Chester, N.Y.) and Kevin Mason (Galloway, N.J) finished 14th and 19th respectively in the 400m. Catalano ran his best performance of the season while Mason improved upon his personal best performance by one second from just last week.

Aidan Freda (Westtown, N.Y.) placed 19th in the 800m.

Prior to the 800m, Freda and Nicholas Tirrell (Turner, Me.) placed 22nd and 24th respectively in the unseeded heats of the 1500m.
On The Field

Robert Burns (Copake, N.Y.) scored 3 points for the Hawks by finishing 6th in the Javelin.

Quomony concluded his day in the sand pit competing in the Long Jump where he would place 8th in the event. His placing scored 1 point for the Hawks in the team competition.

Along with the Javelin, Burns would finish 9th in the Discus, 10th in the Shot Put, and 13th in the Hammer. His mark of 108 ft 7 inches in the Discus was a new personal best performance.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will travel to Utica, NY for the Empire 8 Conference Championships. The competition will be hosted at Utica University's Pioneer Turf and Track and Field Complex starting on Friday May 5th and concluding Saturday May 6th.
