Men's Swimming and Diving

Hartwick Overtakes Potsdam and Rival Oneonta in Tri-Meet Triumph

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The men's swimming and diving team made a splash at their tri-meet, working hard for victories over the SUNY Potsdam Bears and cross-town rival SUNY Oneonta.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The men's team would open the day by taking second, third, and fourth place in the 1-meter diving. Despite falling to Oneonta in this event, first-year Alex Chapman (Port Crane, NY) would score 184.70 to take second place. Chapman would go on to place third in the 3-meter dive, following teammates Diego Vera (White Plains, NY) and Aidan Page, who placed first and second respectively.

The swimming events opened with Karim Mohamed (New Hartford, N.Y.), Conor Barry (Clifton Park, NY), Mahdi Behniaye (Hannibal, Mo.), and Badr Aly (East Syracuse, NY) taking second in the 200 yard medley relay, falling just short to SUNY Oneonta. Barry, however, would return later to the pool to triumph in the 200 yard fly.

Cameron Drake (El Cajon, Cal.) would dominate the freestyle events for the Hawks, claiming victories in both the 1000 yard free and the 500 yard free events. He would also finish second in the 200 yard freestyle, just behind Bryce Rogers (Fulton, N.Y.). Hassan Abdelwahed (New Hartford, N.Y.) would later take first after a solid race in the 50 yard freestyle.

The Hawks would be unable to come out on top in the backstroke events, despite immense effort from Mohamed and first-year Keegan Burkhardt (West Hurley, NY). However, the Hawks would soon bounce back with Rogers claiming another victory in the 200 yard fly.

Barry and Behniaye would both put up solid scores in the 200 yard individual medley event as the meet came to a close, the two of them beating out four Oneonta competitors.

The men's team would conclude the meet with Abdelwahed, Drake, Aly, and Rogers finishing first with a time of 1:30.91 in the 200 yard free relay, nearly three seconds faster than their competitors.

Overall, the Hawks would finish with a 248-22 victory over the SUNY Potsdam Bears, and a 202-103 triumph over the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons. This victory, combined with the women's win brings the Hawks to a 4-2-1 lead in the Battle of the Hills.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will hit the road for a meet against the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles on Saturday, November 15th with a start time of 1 PM.
