ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The women's cross country team ran their first 6k race at the Rochester Yellowjacket XC Invitational, overtaking four opposing teams for a 20th place finish.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks would kick off the day with their first 6k course of the season and a much larger crowd than the smaller meets they have previously raced in.
Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.) made light work of the tough course, placing 63rd out of over 253 runners and shaving six seconds off her time for a personal best of 24 minutes and 25 seconds.
Sophomore Julia Weinschreider (Williamson, N.Y.) would be the second Hawk to cross the finish line at 26 minutes and 6 seconds. First-year Amelia Steitz (Fairport, N.Y.) would also show off some speed, clocking in at 27 minutes and 45 seconds.
The combined efforts of the women's cross country team would see them placing 20th out of 24 teams, overtaking conference rivals Alfred University and Keuka College, as well as Buffalo State and SUNY Fredonia, all while down one runner.
Results from the day can be found here.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH NATE CREWS
"The women have a small adjustment to make moving into the 6k distance, but they need to be cautious on large starting lines not getting sucked into other people's races. Overall, the ladies handled the crowd well and worked together while getting a first look at the regional course. Freshman Amelia Steitz showed something today I think that's been in her for a long time, running nearly a minute and a half faster than I had originally projected."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
