TROY, N.Y. –The Hartwick Track & Field team returned to RPI for the Capital District Classic, rounding out its final regular season meet with a solid showing ahead of the Empire 8 Championships next week.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The women began the day in the 4x100 relay, posting their best time of the season just before championship week. Sydney Franza (Ellenville, N.Y.), Emilia Murphy (Amsterdam, N.Y.), Addison Shank (Emmaus, Pa.), and Keziah Anderson (Rock Island, Ill.) combined for a final time of 58.24 seconds.
Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.) posted a season-best performance in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 16.84 seconds to meet the Empire 8 standard. Shane Hunte (Rosedale, N.Y.) added to the tally in the 100 meters, crossing in 11.29 seconds, while Jaiden Deacon (Valley Stream, N.Y.) also posted a qualifying mark at 11.54 seconds. Conteh continued his strong afternoon with another qualifying effort in the 400 meters, clocking in at 52.20 seconds to place 10th overall.
Hans Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y.) delivered a qualifying performance in the distance events, recording a time of 2:00.57 in the 800 meters. Marquis Jones-McKinney (Astoria, N.Y.) added points in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters (6 feet, ¾ inches).
Basil Metz (Highland, N.Y.) registered a season-best effort in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:02.08 to clear the conference standard. Deacon later secured his second qualifying mark of the day, blazing through the 200 meters in 23.28 seconds.
Shank, Weinschreider, Murphy, and Amelia Steitz (Fairport, N.Y.) picked up points for the women in the 4x400 relay, crossing the finish line in 5:09.37. The men capped off the day with their own 4x400 performance, as Conteh, Metz, Higgins, and Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.) combined for a 3:47.26 finish.

The Hawks will prepare for the Empire 8 Championships on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 in Rochester, N.Y., hosted by St. John Fisher University.
