Cortland, NY- The Hartwick Women's Outdoor Track & Field team was in action today at the SUNY Cortland Upstate Alternative Meet. The meet was hosted by SUNY Cortland at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Hawks fought through temperatures in the low 40s and intermittent rain showers.

Freshman Maddy Smith (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) finished sixth in the 5000m with a season best time of 20:54.41. Sophomore Savarrah Sojda (Clinton, NY/Clinton) finished in third in the triple jump with a mark of 9.95 meters. Sojda also finished ninth in long jump with a jump of 4.46 meters. Giovanna Wall (West Hurley, NY/Onteora) finished eleventh in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:35.69 and thirteenth in discus with a throw of 21.84 meters. Freshman Sophie Ridgway (Albany, NY/Bethlehem) finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 15:43.38.  

Freshman Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) finished ninth in the 100m dash in a time of 14.05. Junior Ashtyn Allen (Athens, PA/Athens) finished ninth in the javelin with a toss of 21.44 meters and fourteenth in shot put with a mark of 7.40 meters. Allen also finished nineteenth in discus with a toss of 17.70 meters. Sophomore Ashley Neier (Whitesboro, NY/Clinton) finished thirteenth in the long jump with a mark of 3.98 meters. Freshman Estianna Merchant (Bronx, NY/Women's Academy of Excellence) finished eighteenth in the 200m dash with a new personal best time of 32.40 and sixteenth in the 100m dash with a new personal best time of 15.30. Senior Annie Sullivan (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) finished twelfth in the 800m with a time of 1:16.21.

The 4x100m Relay composed of Senior Vandia Williams (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Andrews International School), Neier, Sojda, and Tricarico finished second with a season best time of 54.98.

The Hawks will be back in action next Friday and Saturday on April 22 and 23, for the SUNY Cortland Classic hosted by SUNY Cortland in Cortland, NY.
