ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Outdoor Track and Field team will compete at the Empire 8 Championships starting this Friday at 11:30am. The event will be hosted at Utica University's Pioneer Turf and Track and Field Complex. Building off of their performance at Empire 8 Championships this past indoor season, they are primed and ready to make an impact on this meet these next two days.
22 events will be contested through two days of competition. Top-6 finishers in each event score points for the team competition. The most being 10 points for first place, and 1 point for 6th place. The Hawks have several opportunities both in team relays and individual events to score points and finish higher than most people would project. Many of these athletes come into this weekend having top-10 performances in the Empire 8 Conference and are only inches or seconds away from the top-6.
On the track, Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.), Sophie Ridgway (Albany, N.Y.), Maddy Smith (Oneonta, N.Y.), Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), and Giovanna Wall (West Hurley, N.Y.) are all in contention to score points with a podium finish for the Hawks in their respective events. Wall will start things off on the track when she competes in the Preliminary Round of the 100m Hurdles on Friday at 4:10pm.
For field events, Atti Dinsmore (Burkburnett, Tex.), Ashley Neier (Whitesboro, N.Y.), and Alyssa Vellenkoop (Altamont, N.Y.), will carry the majority of the responsibilities and are expected to perform at their best to be in contention for points as well.
