Utica, NY. – Utica University's Pioneer Turf and Track and Field Complex hosted the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite these last two days. The Hartwick Women's Track and Field team competed against 11 other teams across several divisions of collegiate athletics. The Hawks compiled 25 total points, scoring in a plethora of events. Their total placed them 8th in the team competition.
On The Track
- Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.) came away with a pair of personal best performances. Haas first ran the 1500m in 5:38.72 which placed her 11th. Then, followed that up with breaking the 20 minute barrier in the 5000m in a time of 19:47.41, which was good for 5th in the event, scoring four points for the Hawks.
- Sophie Ridgway (Albany, N.Y.) finished 5th in the Steeplechase. Her performance scored four points for the team competition.
- Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) won her heat of the 400m, running one lap of the track in 1:07.13. She placed 6th overall scoring three points for the Hawks. She later competed in the 200m where she finished 16th.
- Maddy Smith (Oneonta, N.Y.) ran in the 10,000m to start the day for the Hawks. She ran a grueling 25 laps around the track in 44:55.56. Her performance was a personal best by about a whopping 38 seconds! Her time placed 7th in the event which scored two points for the team.
On The Field
- Aaliyah Williams (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) jumped over the High Jump bar standing at 4ft 9 inches, placing her 2nd out of 9 competitors. Her mark brought in eight points for the Hawks which lead the team.
- Ashley Neier (Whitesboro, N.Y.) placed 7th in the Long Jump with a leap of 14ft 3 ¼ inches. Her mark was a personal best attempt for either indoor or outdoor seasons. Her finish scored two points for the team as well.
- Giovanna Wall (West Hurley, N.Y.) capped off the scoring for the Hawks thanks to her 7th place finish in the Shot Put. She launched the metal ball 31 feet 5 ¾ inches. Her mark was an outdoor personal best.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will travel to SUNY Cortland for the Cortland Upstate Challenge on Saturday April 15th. The competition will be held at SUNY Cortland's Stadium Complex starting at 10am.
