Northampton, MA- The Hartwick Women's Outdoor Track & Field team kicked off the 2022 Outdoor Track and Field season today at the Carla Coffey Invitational. The meet was hosted by Smith College at their nine lane outdoor track and field complex. The Hawks battled on and off torrential rain to complete their first meet of the spring season.

Sophomore Savarrah Sojda (Clinton, NY/Clinton) finished in first in the triple jump with a mark of 9.68 meters. Sojda also finished first in long jump with a jump of 4.47 meters. Freshman Maddy Smith (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) finished fifth in the 5000m with a time of 21:45.59. Giovanna Wall (West Hurley, NY/Onteora) finished second in the 100m hurdles in a time of 18.75 and fourth in shot put with a throw of 8.96 meters. Freshman Sophie Ridgway (Albany, NY/Bethlehem) finished third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 15:40.38.  

Junior Ashtyn Allen (Athens, PA/Athens) finished third in the javelin with a toss of 26.05 meters and seventh in shot put with a mark of 7.56 meters. Sophomore Ashley Neier (Whitesboro, NY/Clinton) finished third in the long jump with a mark of 4.06 meters. Freshman Estianna Merchant (Bronx, NY/Women's Academy of Excellence) finished sixth in the 200m dash with a new personal best time of 32.70 and seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 16.16. Sophia Kehr (Charlotte, VT/Charlotte Valley Union) finished sixth in the 5000m with a time of 23:41.33. Senior Annie Sullivan (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 3:01.32.

The 4x100m Relay composed of Wall, Neier, Sojda, and Senior Vandia Williams (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Andrews International School) finished fourth with a time of 55.62. The 4x400m Relay composed of Wall, Ridgeway, Senior Eryn Thompson (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango), and Sullivan finished fourth in with a time of 5:21.83.

The Hawks will be back in action next Saturday on April 16, for the Upstate Alternative Meet hosted by SUNY Cortland in Cortland, NY.
