Five of the last six meetings between the Hawks and Zips have been decided by one goal or less. In four of those contests, Hartwick has held the lead in the second half. In 2008, 'Wick lost 2-1 and then was edged in a shootout in the MAC semifinals. The following year, Hartwick led in both games but came up a goal short in the regular season and in the MAC title game. In 2010, the Zips clipped the Hawks by a 2-1 count.

Brown and Marc Russell each are ranked in the league top 10 in goal scoring this season for Hartwick. Brown is fourth with six goals and Russell, who has three goals in the last four games, is ninth with four goals in 2012.

'Wick football hits the road for its second all-time meeting with the Buffalo State Bengals on Saturday. The Hawks are 3-4 overall and looking to rebound following a home loss to Utica last weekend.

The only other meeting between the two sides occured in the 2000 ECAC Northwest Bowl Championship in Buffalo. The Hawks fell by a 43-20 margin.

Against the Pioneers last weekend, freshman running back Joseph Rosiecki ran for 53 yards on 10 carries and classmate Tanner Williams made six catches for 77 yards with one touchdown for Hartwick. Junior quarterback Keegan Corbett threw for 191 yards and a score on 15-of-28 passing. Freshman defensive back Dante Crump led the Hawks in tackles for the second consecutive week. He tied Jared Morrow for the game-high with 11 hits.

Buffalo State has been hit or miss this season. The Bengals defeated perennial power Cortland in its season opener and later beat #1 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 7-6, on the road as they stopped the three-time defending national champions' 46-game winning streak. Since then, they have gone just 2-3, all in Empire 8 Conference games.

The task is simple for the Hartwick College field hockey team this weekend in Utica - win and you're in. The Hawks, who enter Saturday's 10:30 a.m. game with UC tied for third place in the Empire 8, can secure a spot in the conference semifinals with a victory. A loss and some favorable results around the league could get also get the Hawks into the semifinals.

A Hartwick win would not only secure a berth, but also the #2 seed in the Empire 8 playoffs next weekend. Stevens (6-0) has earned the top seed and St. John Fisher (4-3) has nailed down a spot. A Hartwick win Saturday and a W&J victory versus Elmira would create a three-way tie for 3rd. But the Hawks would hold to the head-to-head tie breakers thanks to earlier season triumphs over both the Cardinals and the Presidents.

The Hawks missed an opportunity to clinch last Saturday with a 4-3 overtime loss to Nazareth. Seniors Kelsey Kimble and Meghan Sweeney recorded all the points for 'Wick in the contest. Kimble notched two goals and an assist and Sweeney scored her fourth goal of the season. Kimble now ranks 6th in Hartwick history in career points (92), is tied for 6th in goals (37), and is tied for 10th in assists (18).

Utica (11-5) had a rocky start to its Empire 8 schedule with three losses in its first four games. The Pioneers responded with must-wins over Fisher (1-0) and Ithaca (3-0) to keep their playoff hopes alive.
