ENDICOTT, NY – The Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) announced their 2018-19 statewide award winners earlier this week, and Hartwick women's basketball garnered a pair of accolades off the heels of their tremendous season. Head Coach Katie Marcella was named the Division III Women's Coach of the Year, while senior Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) was selected as one of five members of the Women's Division III All-Upstate Team.

Marcella helmed the Hawks to one of the best seasons in program history, winning both the outright Empire 8 Regular Season Championship and the Empire 8 Tournament for the first time ever. 'Wick finished with 23 wins, tied for the second-most in a season in Hartwick history, breaking 20 victories for the first time since 2013-14 and setting a new program for most conference wins in a season, with 14. They were ranked in all three of the NCAA's regional rankings and had only five losses, all of which were to teams that appeared in at least one of those rankings.

The Hawks won 12 straight games from January 5 through February 5 before losing in double overtime to St. John Fisher, then winning their next four games culminating in a win in the Empire 8 Championship over the Cardinals. 'Wick made their first NCAA Tournament since 2014, losing a close game to Emmanuel College in the First Round after multiple comeback attempts fell just short.

Marcella is the third Hartwick coach to earn a postseason honor from the BCANY; Arden Kragalott and Daphne Thompson were named the Women's College Division Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1999, respectively.

Corbett had a phenomenal senior season, racking up accolades left and right. She was named to the D3hoops.com's All-East Region Second Team, to the Empire 8 Conference First Team, and was selected as the Empire 8 Tournament MVP. She led the Hawks with 15.1 points per game and shot 52.5% from the field, both third in the conference. She was also second on the team in rebounds (6.8), assists (2.7), and steals (1.4).

Corbett ended up with quite a few memorable moments throughout the season. She scored her 1000th career point at home on January 26 vs. Sage, becoming the 16th member of the club in program history. She finished with 1,172 points when all was said and done, 13th on the all-time scoring list. The senior guard also put up one of the greatest individual performances in Hartwick history, scoring 34 points on 13-of-16 shooting (7-of-10 from three), grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out three assists on January 22 at Utica. She was just four points, three baskets, and one three-pointer shy of the program's single-game records. Thanks to that and two other stellar performances later in the week, she was named the Empire 8 Co-Player of the Week, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week, and to D3hoops.com's Team of the Week. Corbett finished her career with 112 threes, sixth on 'Wick's all-time list, and had 46 threes in 2018-19, tied for seventh most in a single season in program history.
