Beth Owens Kutler was a standout defender on the women's soccer team from 1985-88. Hartwick reached postseason play in all four of her seasons, and the squad had a combined record of 48-20-7 during her varsity career.

A four-year starter, Owens led Hartwick to three straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances from 1986-88. The team advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament in 1986 and 1988. She also played a key role on the 1985 squad that registered a second-place finish in the ECAC Tournament.

Despite playing as a defender, Owens scored 46 points (17 goals, 12 assists) in four seasons. She was a first-team selection on the NSCAA All- America Team and the NSCAA All-Region Team in 1988. Owens scored 18 points (five goals, eight assists) as a senior and helped Hartwick finish the 1988 season with a 13-3-4 record.

At the time of induction, Owens was ranked among Hartwick's all-time statistical leaders in three categories. She was ranked seventh in career assists (12), ninth in career scoring (46 points) and ninth in career goals (17).

Owens also competed on the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She broke the school record in the 400 intermediate hurdles and was a member of the school-record holding 1,600-meter relay team.

Academically, Owens graduated summa cum laude with a major in nursing, and was an NSCAA Academic All-American after her junior and senior seasons. She was honored as a John Christopher Hartwick Scholar, the College's highest award, and received the President's Senior Scholar-Athlete Award in 1989. Owens, who graduated ranked third in her class, was a faculty scholar and a recipient of the Florence Nightingale Award.
